Sheet Metal Fabrication
67Sheet Metal Fabrication
Sheet metal is metal beaten into thin and flat pieces. Sheet metal is extensively used in metalworking as it can be cut and bent into almost any shape. The thickness of the sheet metal is referred to as its gauge and it ranges from 30 gauge to about 8 gauge. The higher the gauge, the thinner the sheet metal. There are many different metals that can be made into sheet metal, such as aluminum, brass, copper, steel, tin, nickel and titanium. For decorative uses, even silver, gold, and platinum may be used.
Sheet metal has applications in car bodies, airplane wings, medical tables, roofs for building and many other things. Sheet metal was also used in plate armor worn by the cavalry in earlier days.
Sheet Metal Fabrication is the process of shaping of thin sheets of metal by applying pressure through male and female dies. Sheet metal fabrication generally involves cutting and burning the sheet metal and is aimed towards making sheet metal usable for building metal structures.
Sheet metal fabrication tools, such as band saws, chops saws and cutting torches are used to cut the sheet metal. Sheet metal fabrication also involves extensive use of hydraulic breaks, as they are extremely helpful in bending the sheet metal at predetermined angles. Rolling machines are also used in sheet metal fabrication to form steel into round sections. An Oxy-acetylene torch may also be used to straighten warped steel during sheet metal fabrication.
Sheet metal fabrication products are put together through welding. After the sheet metal product parts are formed, they are assembled and tack welded into place.
Custom sheet metal fabrication involves finishing of the sheet metal fabrication product. Herein, the sheet metal is sand blasted, then primed and painted. Afterward, the sheet metal product are given finishing touches as per the customer’s specifications.
Precision Sheet Metal Fabrication involves higher degree of precision in custom sheet metal fabrication. Precision sheet metal fabrication may involve Laser Cutting, CNC punching, Bending, forming, Welding (Mig, Tig and Spot Welding), and Assembly and also the outside processing of the sheet metal products such as Painting, Plating, Silk-screening, Engraving and polishing.
Businesses specializing in sheet metal fabrication are referred to as sheet metal fabrication shops or sheet metal fabricators.

With a solid commitment to on-time delivery of quality products, Dynamic Sheet Metal is serving the prototype and rapid prototyping of precision machining-turn markets. We fabricate from paper prints or electronic files, and work with a full range of raw materials: steel, stainless steel and aluminum sheet, tube, angle and channel; Lexan and other plastics; copper sheet and bar; and spring steel. We have access to all the major hardware and accessory lines (handles, gaskets) , and can provide paint and powder coat finishes as well as a full complement of plating: clear and colored anodizing; chromate and zinc and chromate; hardcoat; electroplate; electroless nickel; copper, tin, silver, gold, and nickel. We are staffed by experienced employees dedicated to manufacturing quality products.
mily owned and operated business as a supplier of quick turn precision sheet metal and machined products for the prototype markets. Today we are still a family owned and operated business, and many of our employees are from our original team. We have since launched into rapid prototyping of precision machining production as well. Our quality and turn times continue to be among the best in the industry. Serving industries such as robotics, semi-conductor, telecommunications, military, pharmaceutical, medical, computer technologies and aeronautics. Prototek's capabilities include punching and cutting of sheet metal from 0.010" - 0.375" thick, forming, installing hardware, welding, machining, plating, painting, powder coating, silk screening, stamping, part marking, and assembly all under a single roof to help save our customers time and money on their finished parts while ensuring Prototek's trademark quality! At Prototek, our punch press, 4000 watt laser, and two LC-C1 Punch/Laser combination cells run 24/7 which translates to faster turn times for our customers. Our highly qualified staff of employees take measures to ensure parts flow through our manufacturing process quickly and efficiently. Each operation goes through an in-process inspection to ensure the highest level of quality.
